Today we’re thrilled to announce that our portfolio company, Infostellar, successfully raised a $7.3 million Series A led by Airbus Ventures, with additional funds from WERU Investment, D4V, Sony Innovation Fund, and participation from existing investors. After backing Infostellar about a year ago and watching their progress, we were excited to double-down on this incredible team and opportunity.
They’re on track to launch the beta of their first product, StellarStation, in October. Two challenges with satellites are 1) since they orbit the Earth, there’s about a 40-minute window for transmission per day; and 2) antennas have unused capacity during idle time. With StellarStation, satellite operators will be able to connect their antennas to a cloud-based platform and share capacity during idle time. As the number of operators on the platform increases, so will transmission time, while dramatically reducing cost.
When we first met Kurahara-san and Ishigame-san, all they had was a deck and a crazy idea to build an “Airbnb for satellite antennas.” This felt very ambitious to us, to say the least. But there was something about the meeting with this duo that made us think, maybe they are onto something. And maybe this is the team to pull it off. Since then, with just a small seed investment they’ve built an amazing team and have made giant strides towards bringing their product to market. Now that they have raised this big round and have these great investors behind them, we can’t wait to see what they can accomplish! Gambatte!
